Why not use the EQUITANA Open Air as a promotional platform for your products and services?
The EQUITANA Open Air was first called into being in 1998 and has since been held every two years, alternating with the main EQUITANA fair. Over the years, it has developed into a real equestrian sports festival thanks to its rich diversity, its programme of entertainment, the wealth of information on offer, its training demonstrations, shows, sports and everything else it now has to offer. This successful mix is also reflected in the number of visitors to the fair which has more than tripled since that first show back in 1998 (40,000 visitors in 2008 compared to 10 000 in 1998).


The horse as an economic factor
Were you a ware of just how big the market for equestrian sports products is in Germany? According to a 2002 survey carried out by IPSOS, around 1.7 million people in the Federal Republic regularly ride a horse. 748,839 riders are organized in 7676 riding clubs (2009). There are currently more than 1 million horses and ponies owned in Germany and this number has been steadily increasing over the last 35 years. Horse-owners and riders spent around € 2.6 billion on their sport in 2006, whilst the total turnover in this area is estimated to be in excess of € 5 billion.
The EQUITANA Open Air Event is held in the Rhineland, one of the leading German Federal States in the field of equestrian sports and which has no less than 550 registered riding clubs within its boundaries.


Target audience
Our visitors include families, riding clubs, horse-lovers of all ages, amateur riders and people who just go out hacking.
According to the 2010 visitor survey

  • 87% of visitors ride in their spare time
  • 75% of visitors own one or more horses
  • 95% of all visitors were (highly) satisfied with the EQUITANA Open Air
  • 87% of all visitors definitely want to visit the EQUITANA Open Air again
