The winners of the EQUITANA Driving Cup
No less than 140 drivers participated in the 6 qualifying tournaments for the EQUITANA Driving Cup between June and October 2009. This competition for vehicles drawn by single (or pairs of) ponies or horses in the Rhineland has been carried out with the support of the EQUITANA for the very first time - a move which has proved to be an instant success! Some of this year's qualifying tournaments had twice as many nominees as in previous years and organizers were faced with a far higher level of interest among participants.
Competition for one of the highly coveted places in the Grand Final to be held at the EQUITANA Open Air Show was fierce and drivers travelled from all over the Rhineland, from Aachen to Cologne, from the Eifel to Düsseldorf, together with their teams of horses to take part.
The long-awaited Grand Final of the EQUITANA Driving Cup was held on Sunday, 30th May at 3:30 pm on the Neuss Racecourse - the culmination of months of preparation by so many drivers. A total of 24 harnessed teams competed in the finals in four different classes: Single Pony, Single Horse, Pony Pair, Horse Pair, with teams having to negotiate a tricky obstacle cone course on the IG Welsh grass arena.
