Working Equitation Cup
Working Equitation Cup at EQUTIANA Open Air 2018! Friday 25th May in the ring of IG Welsh and Sunday 27th May in the big show ring.
Whether we are talking about the rich heritage of traditional herding techniques employed by the ‘cowboys' of the Iberian Peninsula or modern international tournaments, working equitation is rapidly finding more and more devotees in Germany.
The different sub-disciplines of the sport demand a high degree of speed, control and harmony on the part of both horse and rider.
Competitors have to prove themselves in the four disciplines of dressage, trail, speed trail and cow trials. Riders commonly use Iberian breeds such as Andalusians or Lusitanos or French Camargue horses, i.e. breeds native to the areas where horses were originally used for herding purposes.
Some of the most successful German riders will be presenting excerpts from working equitation competitions in a shortened tournament at EQUITANA Open Air 2018. To start with each rider will spend two minutes demonstrating individual elements of their normal dressage routine. Afterwards, participants will have to overcome trail obstacles that have been set up in the show ring. Riders will be required to perform flying changes in sequence, gallop pirouettes and other advanced level lessons. The exhibition will close with the speed trail. Each rider merely has to complete the course as quickly as possible against the clock with only the time counting. A speed event that you should very definitely not miss!
Enjoy some of the best working equitation riders in the world at EQUITANA Open Air 2018 and thrill to this varied and exciting sport.
KÖNIGS Baroque Horse Cup - Freestyle dressage for baroque horses
Once again we look forward to seeing noble baroque horses stepping out gracefully in the dressage ring - Andalusians, Lusitanos, Fresians, Lipizzaner & co. This year’s KÖNIGS Baroque Horse Cup is even more special, however, in that all the tests will be performed freestyle.
That means that participants can create their own routine and perform to their own music, whereby certain figures will be obligatory for each performance. Points will also be awarded for artistic merit alongside technical execution. The event will start with a beginners’ class (pairs) in the main show ring at EQUITANA Open Air on Friday, 25th May 2018. This will be followed by individual novice level riders. On Saturday, 26th May, 2018 we feature the intermediate and advanced classes. Riders will be wearing different national or classic baroque outfits and their noble steeds be presented in traditional tack.

“Understanding Your Dog” with Karen Uecker presented by Uelzener Versicherungen
Being able to hack out safely and harmoniously with your horse and dog is something that many riders who are also dog-lovers often dream about. But how can you be absolutely sure that you can completely trust your dog to behave when out riding? How can you train your dog to be obedient when giving commands from the saddle and how can you be sure of getting his full attention? Furthermore, how do I get my horse to accept another four-legged companion? With her coaching session “Understanding your dog”, presented by Uelzener Versicherungen, Karen Uecker will be demonstrating, with three teams of equine, canine and human participants, important milestones on the way to creating a safe companion dog for riders.
Would you like to practise working with your dog under expert tuition and pick up some great tips for working together with your four-legged friends?
Then why not apply to take part in our coaching session with Karen Uecker in the show ring on Sunday 27th May 2018.
You and your four-legged friends will need to fulfil the following requirements:
- Your dog should have thoroughly mastered the basic commands and be a keen communicator
- He or she should not be easily distracted and also be resistant to external influences
- Your dog should be used to horses and vice versa
- Your dog should also be compatible with other dogs so that he or she is obedient when in the arena together with other dogs
- Your horse should have mastered the three basic gaits under the saddle, be able to contend with the atmosphere at EQUITANA Open Air and also have experienced events before
A total of three teams will be selected for the coaching session with Karen. Click on the link below to enter the application form for the coaching session (only in German). We wish you luck.
Karen Uecker is a well-known author and expert on training dogs generally and specifically as riding escorts. She places a lot of emphasis on mastering the basics, feeling that commands need to be executed precisely so that both dog and horse remain motivated. She feels that, when out riding with an escort dog, it is vital that you communicate in a clear and confidence-building way with the horse from the ground or in the saddle and can guide the dog reliably when some distance from the horse. These are difficult tasks to master and the only real help is thorough preparation. As a public speaker, Karen Uecker frequently gives practical insights into training our four-legged friends and is able to demonstrate just what is possible when canines, equines and humans are fully in tune with one another. Karen will be demonstrating her skills together with her Belgian Shepherd dog Asim and her Akhal Teke/Arab Gharamat.
