The International Gaited Horse Association, or IGV, to give it its German abbreviation, sees itself as an organization that protects the interests of all gaited breeds and their fans throughout Europe. We are a large colourful mix of people with many different interests who have come together under the umbrella of the IGV.
Our diverse gaited-horse family is united by our enthusiasm for comfortable and easy-to-ride horses, our love of challenging leisure rides and exciting fast-paced competitions.
Breed associations, gaited-horse clubs and private members all find a common home under the overarching umbrella of the IGV. We provide support and advice on anything relating to gaited horses.
The IGV was founded in 1988. Its goal is to preserve the cultural heritage of gaited horses, which extends back to the late middle-ages and had almost been lost over the centuries. At the same time, we wish to raise the level of people’s knowledge regarding the different breeds out there, increase awareness of gaited-horse riding in Germany and make the sport more popular.
